Concur on both sides being happy with the current arrangement
I don't want to force ND into giving up their football independence to finally join the ACC. I want them to come because they actually want to join.
The ACC is doing just fine in football over the last few years, and I attribute that to an upgrade in coaching, and (last year) great QB play across the league. We may take a step back with the last one this year, but I think overall the ACC is doing just fine. Remember, Miami will be "back" this year. :)
ND, on the other hand, really isn't that concerned with winning a NC in football. They would like one, but haven't taken that next step (conference affiliation) to put them in a stronger position to make the playoff. If records are equal, I don't see ND being taken over a conference champ. ND may not have the juice to make up a 1-game better record over a conference champ. Winning that conference playoff game raises the stakes significantly over any independent trying to "sneak in" from the outside. Now if a couple of 6-4 divisional champs upset the favorites in their conference championship games, ND has a solid chance to make the playoff. But I guess they'll be fighting the SEC runner up for the 4th slot if that occurs...lol
